A standard air conditioner improves indoor air quality to some extent by filtering dust, pet dander, and larger airborne particles through its built-in filter as it circulates air through the unit. However, a basic air conditioner is not a substitute for a dedicated air purifier, as most units are not equipped to capture fine particulate matter, bacteria, viruses, or pollutants at the level that a HEPA-grade air purifier can achieve. Some higher-end air conditioner models available in the Philippines include additional features such as ionizers, UV sterilizers, or anti-allergen filters that provide enhanced air purification, and these may be worth considering for households with members who have asthma, allergies, or respiratory conditions.
